We have received a great financial contribution from the Well van der Snoek Foundation for our new project Functional Literacy and Life Skills, simply called FULL.
Many young people from poor backgrounds want to move abroad because they have few opportunities for work and education at home. The poor economic situation, political unrest and inadequate facilities in their area make them look for a better life elsewhere. On the other hand, better opportunities and living conditions in developed countries attract them.
We want to ensure that young people in Kilifi have more opportunities in their own environment, so that they do not have to leave. We do this by offering very practical, functional job application training, which includes both basic skills and practical life skills, by collaborating with companies and schools, and offering workshops and mentor programs. We also use technology, such as online learning platforms. As in all our programs, we naturally involve the local community.
The aim of the project is to better prepare young people for the labor market and offer them more opportunities. With this, the project hopes that they will build their future in their own country, instead of emigrating.
