Hooray! Learn! Foundation is celebrating its 15th anniversary today!
Together with the team in Kenya, we are making a huge difference in the lives of many young people and their families, as well as schools, teachers, and local communities. What could be more beautiful than having the opportunity to receive an education? To return to school, to start or finally complete a course of study? Having a diploma opens up better job opportunities. In fact, we see education as the only way out of poverty.
Our (enhanced) focus is therefore on providing scholarships, paying overdue school fees, covering living expenses when students rent accommodation, and offering tutoring and computer lessons at our own Learn! Centre. We closely monitor all our students and offer support where needed.
Starting January 1, 2025, we will also be adding *ob application training. This will include training on how to conduct a job interview, what to prepare, key things to watch for, and guidance for those who may not yet have the qualifications for the job they aspire to, among other things.
Additionally, we will continue to support both Makonjemare- and Mbwana Comprehensive Schools wherever possible. This includes the food program at Makonjemare, the school garden, small repairs, scouting activities at Makonjemare, the Ticket to School program (which provides free school uniforms for children at our schools), furniture for the teachers at Mbwana, playground maintenance, and much more. We also support vocational training to help young women gain skills in tailoring.
Our star leader in Kilifi, Kenya, is Jackline Jumbe. Together with Fridah and Ann, and a number of dedicated volunteers, she manages all operations in Kilifi. We’ve said it many times before: she is our eyes and ears in Kenya. Through her, all requests for support come in. A better pay-off for "lifting the barriers" doesn’t exist. This is what we’ve been doing for 15 years, and since 2011, we’ve been doing it together. We are incredibly ambitious and dream of growing, expanding our center, and offering many more scholarships. This is crucial.
Thanks to the support of our wonderful and loyal donors, we’ve already achieved so much. But this is just the beginning: there are many more inspiring education projects planned.
